SHIP CARPENTER TOOLS

Some of the ship’s carpenter tools belonged to Jaume Costa, from Vilanova, with whom Francesc Roig started his career when he was just fourteen years old. However, several years before he had already turned his bedroom into a kind of workshop where he built miniature vessels

It is worth highlighting the plane, the handsaw, jack plane, hand drill, rabbit plane, caulking mace and clamp.

Ship carpenters used these basic, old tools to make fishing vessels a hundred years’ ago, and they worked the hard woods such as oak, holm oak and ash that they used in the ship yards. Ship carpentry has been a very prestigious, respected role throughout history, in Catalonia and most of the world, because of its contribution to art and techniques and the significance of fishing, war, transport and leisure vessels.
